The sky is black, the ground is white;

Jesus was born - the Virgin
leans on him his lovely face.
No scalloped curtain
To protect the child from the cold;
Just the
cobwebs hanging from the roof beams.
He trembles on fresh straw,
This dear little baby Jesus,
And in the heat his crib
The ox and the ass blow over.
Snow thatched sews its fringes,
But on the roof opens the heavens
And while white the choir of angels to the shepherds
Sing "Noel! Christmas!"
